Celebrating success stories at our school
Peter's growth in writing
Let's celebrate the progress Peter in 1O has made in his writing this semester. His confidence and belief in his abilities have grown, shining through his class work. Peter’s spelling has improved as he applies his knowledge of sounds to spell common words accurately, making his writing clear and engaging.
His sentence construction has further developed, with well-formed, independent sentences that include adjectives and noun groups, along with correct punctuation. This skill has helped Peter bring his ideas to life, showing creativity and clarity.
A wonderful example of his progress is a recent recount he wrote about his weekend. Peter was lucky enough to get a new python, describing the features of his snake and its enclosure.
What stands out most is Peter’s determination. He has worked hard to stay on task, completing his work with care and attention. His perseverance, combined with growing confidence, makes his writing achievements commendable. We congratulate Peter on his fantastic progress and look forward to seeing his skills continue to flourish!
Year 2 Students Shine!
This week we are delighted to celebrate the outstanding efforts of three of our Year 2 students, Lily W, Ayla C and Harlan K-R from 2S. These students have been working very hard in Numeracy. They have demonstrated a greater understanding of mathematical concepts and an impressive ability to apply their skills in creative and flexible ways.
Through consistent effort and curiosity, these students have displayed significant growth in their ability to work mathematically; solve problems in multiple ways, record and represent their thinking, using diagrams, number sentences and arrays and use mathematical language to justify their solutions.
Their commitment to learning, willingness to take on challenges and positive attitude towards problem-solving have made them excellent role models for their peers. We are incredibly proud of their progress and can’t wait to see how they continue to grow as mathematicians!
Liam in 1H
This week in 1H, students have been exploring the concept of equivalence using arrays in their mathematics lessons. We are thrilled to celebrate the fantastic achievement of Liam, who has shown a deep understanding of this topic.
During a recent activity, Liam used counters to create different arrays, expertly demonstrating how the same total can be represented in multiple ways. With a total of 24 counters, Liam created a 6-row by 4-column array and a 2-row by 12-column array. He was able to write the matching number sentences for each array and then transfer these into number facts, showing his ability to connect visual representations with mathematical expressions.
Liam confidently discussed his work with Mr Garner, using mathematical language to explain his thinking. His ability to articulate his strategies and solutions impressed his classmates and teacher alike.
Mia and Kayla
In Visual Arts, class 5/6F have been exploring the fascinating world of photography. Recently, Mia and Kayla were given the prompt "Nature/Light," encouraging them to capture the beauty of the natural world through thoughtful use of lighting and perspective.
Mia and Kayla truly embraced the challenge, producing two outstanding photographs that stood out for their creativity and technical skill. Their images beautifully demonstrate key photography techniques, including effective use of lighting to highlight their subjects, interesting perspectives that draw the viewer in, and vibrant colour composition. Their eye for detail are truly inspiring amazing.
Kobi in KM
We are excited to celebrate Kobi’s wonderful progress in KM as he continues to develop his phonemic knowledge and letter-sound matching skills. Kobi has been working to connect sounds with their corresponding letters, an essential foundation for reading and writing.
Today, Mr Garner visited KM and was impressed by Kobi’s confidence and hard work. Kobi proudly wrote his dictation sentence, carefully applying his sound knowledge to spell the words. After writing, he confidently read the sentence back to Mr Garner, demonstrating his growing reading skills.
Hayley's excellent work
We are excited to celebrate Hayley from KM for her impressive understanding of vowel teams during a recent dictation activity. Hayley confidently and clearly wrote the sentence, “The car has a horn.” Hayley's sentence demonstrates not only her significant knowledge of vowel teams but also her understanding of important sentence features, including the use of a capital letter and a full stop. Her enthusiasm and skill were evident as she continued to demonstrate her learning while Mr Garner visited the classroom. Well done Hayley.

These innovative resources allow them to bring their ideas to life, fostering a love for science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
Yarn Up
Last week’s Yarn Up celebrated our Aboriginal students, culture, and education, with a focus on introducing Personalised Learning Pathways (PLPs) that integrate Aboriginal perspectives. These tailored plans help students connect learning with their cultural identity, fostering pride and understanding. A great example is Cohen from 2/3K, whose enthusiasm for Aboriginal symbols in geography has boosted his engagement and inspired him to explore the topic further, highlighting the positive impact of culturally relevant education.
A new school year and new beginnings
As we welcome 2025, our school has had a fantastic start with 76 new kindergarten students and 19 new students across other year groups joining our community. Thanks to students familiarising themselves with their classes before the new year, the transition has been smooth and positive. To celebrate achievements, each newsletter will feature students excelling in their learning. This week, we highlight 2S with Mrs Stanbridge, who are enthusiastically exploring polygons, demonstrating both academic growth and teamwork.
Floraville Public School Sustainability Crew
Year 6 students Emily, Grace, Sophie, and Lily are working on a smart waste management system for schools as part of the Game Changer Challenge. With help from Mr Tassell, they researched waste habits at our school and designed a plan to help students dispose of waste properly. Their goal is to encourage everyone to make sustainable choices every day.
You can learn more about their project by watching their video and visiting the FPS Sustainability Crew. Their work shows how students can make a real difference in caring for the environment.
